Step 1: Locate your current modem Your modem should be a black or dark gray box connected to your wall outlet with a coax cable, and will have a series of lights on the front. In some cases, it may also be connected to a computer or router with an ethernet cable. (Not all modems will have a device connected with an ethernet cable.) |

Common modem style. Your modem model may vary slightly, but all modems will have a series of lights on the front and will be connected to the wall by a coax cable. |
Step 2: Unplug modem from power outlet. Please bring the power cord when you return the old modem. You should not use this cord with the replacement modem. Your new modem will come with its own power cord. NOTE: You will lose internet connectivity to any internet connected device in your home once you unplug the modem. Step 3: Disconnect any ethernet cables from the modem. You may leave the other end of the ethernet cable connected to the device on the other end. In most cases, you will be able to simply plug the disconnected end into the new modem. Step 4: Unscrew the coax cable from the modem. You may leave the other end of the coax cable connected to the wall outlet. In most cases, you will be able to simply reattach the disconnected end to the new modem. Step 5: Return the modem to the nearest Shentel store. For a complete list of store locations, click here. You will be given a new modem with installation instructions. A $10 credit will be applied to your account. Step 6: Install your new modem. Using the instructions provided, please install the new modem. Eligible Shentel Internet customers on specific equipment only. One time service credit of $10 will be applied to account after current modem has been returned to the store. Credit may take up to 30 days to appear on account. Customers are responsible for paying the full amount of their bill while waiting for credit to be applied. Equipment fees for new modem will be equal to current monthly rate of $8.00. New equipment must be picked up and installed by customer in order for customer to be eligible for the credit.
