Q: Why is Shentel converting to digital?
A: So we can provide improved services.
Every cable provider has a limited amount of capacity available to provide programming. Analog channels (Channels 2-72) use 10-12 times as much capacity as a single digital channel. Converting analog channels to digital will give Shentel the capacity to offer a higher quality TV experience, faster Internet speeds and superior phone service.

Q: Why do I need the adapter?
A: To convert the new TV signal into a viewable format.
It enables your TV to receive the digital cable signal without a traditional cable box. After the conversion is complete, the only way you will be able to see any cable channel without a cable box is through an adapter.

Q: Who will need an adapter?
A: Any Shentel cable customer who watches Shentel channels on at least one TV without a cable box.
Adapters will not be required for any TV that is already connected to a cable box from Shentel. You only need to get adapters for the additional TVs that are connected directly to the cable without a box. Only areas that have already been converted to digital, or are in the process will require an adapter at this time.

Q: How will this affect my bill?
A: Additional equipment charges may apply.
There may be a small monthly fee for each adapter. Please call 1-800-SHENTEL or stop by a store for exact details. The conversion will not change your current programming plan price or contract dates. Shentel will mail adapters directly to your home. There is no charge for shipping.

Q: Will this change my current lineup?
A: No. All programming will remain the same as before the conversion.
You will receive all the channels you had before, in the same order, but in crystal clear digital format.

Q: Will I need to schedule a service appointment?
A: No. You can install the adapter yourself, in about 10 minutes.
The adapters are easy to install. The self-install kit includes simple instructions, all the cables you need, and a remote control.

Q: What if I have difficulty installing the adapter?
A: Shentel will be there to help.
If you run into trouble while installing your adapter, call 1-800-SHENTEL. Someone will be happy to assist you over the phone or by sending a technician to your home if necessary. *Note. An installation fee may apply if a technician is needed for a professional install.

Q: What if I have a HDTV?
A: You will still require an adapter.
But don't worry. The self-install kit includes a HDMI cable for connecting the adapter to HDTVs.

Q: What if I have a VCR or DVR or other extra device?
A: The adapter can be connected to most video devices.
The adapter connects directly to the incoming cable line. Any existing device (Blu-ray players, VCR, DVR, Gaming console, etc.) can connect to the adapter the same way it is currently connected to the cable line. In most cases, you do not even need to disconnect the device from your TV. The detailed instructions in the self-install kit explain how to connect to these devices to the adapter using the supplied cables. Once connected, your device should still work the same as it did before.

Q: How bulky is the adapter?
A: The adapter is very discreet.
The adapters are much smaller than a regular cable box. It is only slightly larger than a deck of cards. It doesn’t have a bright clock or channel number display, so it doesn’t stand out. You should not need to clear extra space for a large additional piece of equipment.

Q: What if I have one main TV with a cable box, but other TVs in guest rooms and bedrooms that connect directly to the wall?
A: Each TV requires a cable box or an adapter, but not both.
You will need one adapter for every TV that doesn’t have a cable box, if you wish to view your Shentel lineup on that TV. Only one TV may be connected to each adapter. TVs with a cable box are already receiving the digital channels and will not require any action on your part.

Q: Do I use my existing remote?
A: No. A new remote for the adapter is included in the self-install kit.
The included remote can be used with the adapter to change channels and control volume. You should be able to program this new remote to also be able to control the volume on the TV separately from the volume on the adapter. Instructions on how to do this are included in the self-install kit. If you have a device such as a VCR connected, you will need to continue to use that device’s remote to control it.
*Note. There is a button on the adapter remote for GUIDE, but it does not allow access to the interactive guide. You must have a regular cable box to use that feature. You will still be able to see the scrolling guide on Channel 2.

Q: When will I start seeing the digital lineup?

A: Immediately.
Right now, Shentel is currently broadcasting all channels in both analog and digital formats. Once the adapter is connected, you will instantly begin seeing the digital programming.

Q: Could I trade in all my cable boxes for the less expensive adapters?
A: You could, but you would lose many of the great features of your cable box.
The adapter only allows you to see the channels you have as part of your package. It does not provide an interactive guide, access to Pay-Per-View channels or any of the digital recording features of a DVR. The adapter is primarily intended for those extra TVs in your home that do not have a cable box.
